Effect of TCM Bamboo Cupping Therapy on Pain Associated with Wind-Cold-Dampness Type Scapu-lohumeral Periarthritis
Objective To explore the effect of TCM bamboo cupping therapy on the pain associated with wind-cold-dampness type scapulohumeral periarthritis. Methods A total of 60 patients were selected by convenience sampling who suffered from pain associated with wind-cold-dampness type scapulohumeral periarthritis and were admitted to Pingxiang People's Hospital from October 2022 to June 2023.They were divided into the control group(n=30)and the observation group(n=30)by order of admission. The control group was given traditional glass cupping based on routine treatment and nursing care;the observation group was given bamboo cupping based on routine treatment and nursing care. The pain severity[measured by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)],shoulder joint range of motion and shoulder joint function[measured by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA)scoring system]before and at the end of the two-week intervention were compared between groups, and the incidence of adverse events during the intervention was compared between groups. Results VAS scores at the end of the two-week intervention were lower than those before intervention in both groups and the scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The shoulder joint range of motion and JOA scores at the end of the two-week intervention were higher than those before intervention in both groups, and the scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Besides,the incidence of adverse events in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, with a significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion The TCM bamboo cupping therapy can relieve the pain in patients with wind-cold-dampness type scapulohumeral periarthritis, increase the shoulder joint range of motion, improve the shoulder joint function and reduce the incidence of adverse events.
