Qualitative Study on Experience of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Nurses in the Training of Scenario Simulation Combined with Standardized Patient Teaching
Objective To understand the real experience of pulmonary and critical care medicine(PCCM)nurses participating in training that integrated scenario simulation and standardized patient(SP)teaching, aiming to provide a reference for relevant nurse specialist training. Methods From November 2022 to October 2023,15 nurses who participated in PCCM nursing training in a Grade Ⅲ-A hospital in Shanghai were selected by purposive sampling.Then,semi-structured interviews were conducted to understand their experience in the training that integrated scenario simulation and SP teaching.Their interview data were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step method. Results A total of 5 topics were extracted regarding the experience of these PCCM nurses in the training that integrated scenario simulation and SP teaching:1)enhanced learning enthusiasm;2)increased practice opportunities and boosted clinical nursing confidence;3)facilitation in developing clinical thinking;4)a deeper understanding of the importance of teamwork;5)recognition of areas that still need improvement. Conclusion Integrating scenario simulation and SP teaching enhances the learning enthusiasm and critical thinking abilities of PCCM nurses and also promotes their professional skills and overall competence. However, the appraisal mode for this training requires further refinement to better align with clinical teaching objectives.
