Impact of Marital Disclosure Intervention on Postoperative Psychological Distress and Marital Inti-macy in Patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Objective To explore the impact of marital disclosure intervention on psychological distress and marital intimacy in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)after electrocision. Methods A total of 96 BPH patients were selected who underwent transurethral resection of the prostate(TURP)at Ji'an Central People's Hospital from January 2020 to December 2022.They were randomly divided into the control group(n=48)and the observation group(n=48).The control group was given routine postoperative intervention while the observation group was additionally given a 4-stage marital disclosure intervention(mainly including verbal dis-closure,written disclosure and marital interaction). Both groups were intervened until discharge. The Chinese version of the Distress Disclosure Index(DDI),the Marital Adjustment Test(MAT),the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),the Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)and the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)were used to evalu-ate and compare the marital disclosure, marital intimacy, psychological distress and pain degree before and af-ter intervention between the two groups. Also, the occurrence of bladder spasms during hospitalization was com-pared between the two groups. Results Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in all indi-cators between the two groups(P>0.05).Before discharge,DDI and MAT scores were higher in the observation group than in the control group, while SAS,SDS and VAS scores were lower in the control group, with signifi-cant differences(P<0.05).During hospitalization,1 patient(2.08%)in the observation group and 8 pa-tients(16.67%)in the control group suffered from bladder spasms, with a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Marital disclosure intervention can significantly improve disclosure and mari-tal intimacy, alleviate psychological distress and pain, and reduce the occurrence of bladder spasms in BPH pa-tients after surgery.
