Meta-analysis of Compression Cryotherapy and Conventional Cryotherapy After Shoulder Arthroscopy
Objective To compare the efficacy of compression cryotherapy and conventional cryotherapy after shoulder arthroscopy through meta-analysis.Methods Randomized controlled studies comparing the efficacy of compression cryotherapy and traditional cryotherapy after shoulder arthroscopy were systematically retrieved from CNKI,Wanfang Data,Database of Chinese Sci-Tech Periodicals,PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library,Web of Science and ClinicalTrails from their establishment to April 2023.Literature screening, quality evaluation and data extraction were independently performed by 2 investigators. The extracted data were analyzed using Stata 15.1 software. Results A total of 7 articles were included, involving 442 patients. The Meta-analysis showed that the visual analogue scale scores 24 h[SMD=-0.87,95%CI(-1.29,-0.45),P<0.001]and 48 h[SMD=-1.03,95%CI(-1.53,-0.52),P<0.001]postoperatively in the compression cryotherapy group were lower than those in the conventional cryotherapy group;the swelling values at 15 cm from the epicondyle[SMD=-0.61,95%CI(-0.92,-0.29),P<0.001],20 cm from the epicondyle[SMD=-1.31,95%CI(-2.46,-0.16),P=0.026]and axillary[SMD=-1.19,95%CI(-2.11),-0.27),P=0.011]and swelling scores[SMD=-0.86,95%CI(-1.22,-0.50),P<0.001]24 h postoperatively in the compression cryotherapy group were lower than those in the conventional cryotherapy group;the swelling values at 15 cm from the epicondyle[SMD=-0.81,95%CI(-1.44,-0.18),P=0.012],20 cm from the epicondyle[SMD=-1.14,95%CI(-1.57,-0.71),P<0.001]and axillary[SMD=-1.55,95%CI(-2.95,-0.15),P=0.030]and swelling scores[SMD=-0.85,95%CI(-1.44,-0.26),P=0.005]48 h postopera-tively in the compression cryotherapy group were also lower than those in the conventional cryotherapy group. Conclusion Compression cryotherapy is more effective in relieving pain and swelling than conventional cryotherapy after shoulder arthroscopy.
