The present paper,analyzing elite Arab families in the urban area,which played a decisive role in the lo-cal politics and resistance against foreign invasion and strived to create the consciousness of national iden-tity by integrating family interests,idea of rejuvenating Arab nation and religious feeling anchored in Jeru-salem,contends that they did lead the Palestinian nationalist movement around the First World War but meanwhile they made Palestine's national independence tortuous due to their own historical limitation and factionalism.
