The present paper,reconstructing the history,in which the Nationalist Nanjing government tried to incor-porate the frontier transportation into the overall national program by opening up the northwestern interna-tional transportation line in support of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression,points out that this endeavor played the dual role of national salvation and management of frontier areas and made signifi-cant contribution to the national program of integrating the frontier.
