The present paper,discussing the history of the mid-1950s,in which Britain and Japan ended confronta-tion in economy and trade and chose instead to conduct in-depth cooperation in the Southeast Asia for their common interests,agues that the rise of New China since 1949 played an important role in this change,as the two countries need to collaborate in containing China and had common interests in trading with China.
