The present paper, digging into early Tang's stone inscriptions narrating the story of Prince Li(128-91 BCE)in accordance with an established historiographical mode, makes such a conclusion that the image of Prince Li was(re-)created in the light of realistic political needs in the early Tang, when the crown princes were usually unable to ascend the throne normally and this historiographical paradigm played a key role in simplifying Prince Li to meet the needs of people in power.
