The present paper,reexamining the development of Assyriology,which should be a branch of regional study that has developed over 150 years and had over 200 research institutes in more than 30 countries,contends that Assyriology should not focus exclusively on the history of Iraq but on Iraq,Kuwait,and neighboring countries such as Türkiye,Syria,Lebanon and Iran and that it should research into Mesopotamia's politics,economy and culture of and its communication with other civilizations.
