The present paper concludes that the Oriental study inspired Abel Rémusat,who was generally treated as the earliest Sinologist in the West,to study China from the perspective of Asia,prepared the basic re-search mode for Rémusat through philology and translation,and shaped Rémusat's positive perception of Chinese culture by the trend of love and respect for the oriental culture;and it particularly suggests read-ers rethink Edward Said's Orientalism through the lens of Rémusat's critique of Eurocentrism.
