The present paper,delving into Introduction to Great Deeds of Budda authored by Taranatha(1575-1635)in the seventeenth century,who was the founding master of Jonang school and narrated Budda's life from the Hinayanan perspective in the hope of breaking old narrative mode based on the twelve deeds of Buddha,proposes that,apart from showcasing the historical value of Taranatha's work,Xizang's pre-Tar-anatha narrative tradition regarding Buddha's life be well explored.
