Research on Urban Competition and Cooperation Relationship Based on Global Urban Network
In the global urban network, competition and cooperation between cities(nodes)is not only a profound theoretical issue(involving what forces drive global urban development),but also a common confusion encountered in reality. This issue has not been well addressed in global urban research, and the key lies in staying at the surface of urban competition and cooperation, without delving into the underlying actors(two types of actors)and their different effects on urban competition and cooperation.Based on the criticism of urban competitiveness theory, this article constructs a new analytical framework to reveal that the competitive effects of global functional companies(institutions)lead to extensive cooperation between cities and competition between city governments dominating urban competition. It also analyzes the urban competition relationship where network-based cooperation is greater than competition, cooperation in competition, and competition tends to be cooperative, and optimize urban competition and cooperation by leveraging the synergistic effects of different participants.
