City Size,Family Migration and Income Growth——Evidences from Rural Outbound Labor Force
More and more floating people are beginning to migrate in a family-based way.Using the 1%Chinese census in 2005 and the Statistical Yearbook of Chinese Cities 2001-2005,this paper studies the income effect of the scale of the city in the place of relocation on the income of married migrant women. The results show that for every 1%increase in the size of the city, their income will increase by 0.36%.The reason is that for every 1%increase in the size of the city, the employment opportunities for married women increase by 0.102%more than that of single women, and the better match with the service industry in big cities is the source of employment and income increase. After correcting the sample selection bias and endosity, the results are also significantly stable. The scientific judgment of policymakers on the migration of households in the floating population can not only effectively increase the supply of the service industry, but also promote gender equality and achieve inclusive growth in the floating population.
