The Impacts of Digital Economy on Employment Based on Panel Data of 279 Cities
The world is currently in the midst of a new wave of technological revolution.Digital technology has brought about revolutionary changes in production methods.Digital technology represented by artificial intelligence has caused people to worry about mass unemployment due to its intelligent characteristics.Based on the data of 279 cities in China from 2003 to 2019,six major indicators that can reflect the development level of urban digital economy are selected to study the impact of urban digital economic development on total employment and skill structure of employment.Empirical analysis finds that the development of the digital economy significantly increases the total employment,significantly increases the employment proportion of high-skilled labor,and significantly reduces the employment proportion of low-skilled labor.This means that the digital economy increases both the total employment and the skill requirements for workers.Therefore,promoting full employment in the context of the digital economy requires upgrading the skills of workers.
