Research on the Impact of Information Consumption on Urban Entrepreneurial Activity
Implementing the strategy of expanding domestic demand through information consumption is of great significance for achieving high-quality economic development.According to balanced panel data from 283 prefecture level cities in China between 2009 and 2021,the article takes the pilot policy of information consumption as a quasi natural experiment to expand domestic demand.A multi period double difference model is constructed to empirically test the impact, mechanism, and spatial effects of the pilot policy of information consumption on urban entrepreneurial activity.Research finds that the pilot policy of information consumption has a significant positive effect on the increase of urban entrepreneurial activity, which is mainly achieved through three channels:venture capital agglomeration effect, technology agglomeration effect, and talent agglomeration effect.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the pilot policy of information consumption mainly enhances the entrepreneurial activity of cities with high marketization levels and obvious location advantages, and this entrepreneurial enhancement effect is more significant for the service industry, especially the non productive service industry.Expansion analysis finds that the pilot policy of information consumption has a significant spatial positive spillover effect on urban entrepreneurial activity. The research conclusion provides policy implications for promoting information consumption, expanding domestic demand, and smoothing the domestic economic cycle.
