The Impact of Children Quantity and Gender on Commercial Persion Insurance Decision:Are Parents'Old Age Secured by Having Sons or Daughters?
Using the comprehensive social survey data of China in 2018 and 2021,this paper investigates the impact of the number and gender of children on the purchase decision of commercial pension insurance and its mechanism. The paper draws the following three conclusions:(1)An increase in the number of children will inhibit the purchase decision of commercial pension insurance, especially the number of sons in the family will significantly suppress the demand for purchasing commercial pension insurance.(2)As the number of sons increases, the demand for commercial pension insurance will be reduced through a preference for relying on children for retirement and increasing risk aversion.(3)The inhibitory effect of increasing the number of children in families on participation in commercial pension insurance is more pronounced in families with lower income and education levels.Middle and elderly families prefer to rely on sons to prevent aging while young families prefer to rely on daughters to prevent aging.Based on the research findings, this paper proposes relevant suggestions on how to promote the sustainable development of commercial pension insurance.
