Communication Strategy of Contemporary Youth Esports Culture Based on Symbolic Interaction Theory
Esports are a type of youth subculture that is slowly becoming more popular with the general public.With esports games as the main core,esports culture influences the cultural identity of the young generation,and it is currently one of the important carriers of cross-cultural communication.Based on this understanding,this paper,taking esports games as the research carrier,attempts to provide a new reflection and test on the communication path of esports culture in the Chinese context from the perspective of the ontology of human communication,i.e.,the symbolic interactionism.It adopts a mixed method of content analysis and experimental research to visually encode and analyze promotional game videos,categorizes the cultural symbols into three types:humanistic elements,life elements,and natural elements,and combines them with the EEG physiological signal measurements in order to explore the differences in the cognitive and cultural identities of youths from diverse cultural backgrounds towards different types of symbol elements.The findings reveal that different forms of cultural symbols have different communication effects,youths from different cultural backgrounds have distinct differences in their cognition and cultural identities of different types of cultural symbols,and game confrontation also indirectly affects the cultural identity of youths.This paper proposes ways to enhance the external communication power of esports cultural products by constructing a"global integration consciousness"between Chinese and foreign youths,creating an esports communities for external cultural communication,and implicit dissemination the idea of oriental aesthetics.
