An Empirical Analysis of Enhancing the Effectiveness of Online Learning for College Students by Teacher-Student Interaction
The teacher-student interaction has a significant impact on effective learning of college students in online teaching in higher institutions.Based on 328 influencing factors reviewed in 144 academic papers from the viewpoint of the"human-machine(computer)-environment"system theory,113 preliminary influencing factors(PIFs)to affect the learning effect are summarized by qualitative analysis.Twenty-five main influencing factors(MIFs)to restrict effective learning are extracted with a factor analysis procedure.Based on the eleven factors related to teacher-student interaction,the DEMATEL(decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory)approach is used for empirical analysis.The key influencing factors(KIFs)to dominate the effect of teacher-student interaction during online teaching in higher institutions are then probed and the structure and influencing mechanism of teacher-student interaction are revealed.The results demonstrate that effectiveness of online learning of college students depends on twenty-five MIFs that fall into six dimensions such as"student","teacher","platform","participant-participant interaction","mode of teaching"and"environment".The KIFs of the effectiveness of teacher-student interaction are the tripartite interaction among three parties including teachers,students and parents;an equal,harmonious and democratic teacher-student relationship;and the teacher's sufficient interactions with his/her students by webcams and voice communication.To improve the interaction between teachers and students in online teaching,priority should be given to the utilization of modern education techniques by teachers,the personal appearance and teaching performance of teachers,and the reasonable supervision of students by teachers based on the data from online teaching platforms.Specific countermeasures are proposed for promoting teacher-student interaction to improve effective learning of college students in online teaching from the viewpoint of the utilization of interactive teaching means,interaction with the help of the advantages of the teaching platform,nonverbal interaction,and so on.
