The Digitization and Study of Henry Ⅲ Fine Rolls:An Archive Balancing Democratization and Scholarship
Henry Ⅲ Fine Rolls Project can be regarded as a model for the construction of digital archives in the UK.Based on XML TEI and RDF/OWL technical paths,Fine Rolls Project completed the digitization of the translated text format and digital facsimiles of the originals.Adhering to the principle of democratizing,the project team adopted measures such as openness,English translation,and convenient web design.At the same time,in order to maintain academic rigor,the project team has taken measures such as strict translation standards,preserving the complex document format of original documents,continuing the tradition of historical and archival research in reference printing,text search,digital facsimiles.The Fine of the Month is the featured section of the Henry Ⅲ Fine Rolls Project.Through a two-way interaction between the website and users,the project team has achieved a bridge between democracy and rigor.The digital arrangement of archives,represented by the Henry Ⅲ Fine Rolls Project,has become an important trend in historical research,maintaining academic rigor while taking into account the democratization of archives and,in the process,mobilizing the attention of society as a whole to the construction of archives.
