"Sight"and"Insight"of Fiction:Interview with Booker Prize Winner Anne Enright
Journal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University(Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition)presents the column of"High-level Interviews with Renowned Writers".In this issue,the interview features Anne Enright,the winner of the 2007 Booker Prize.First,it discusses the elements of novel writing,including imagery and stream of consciousness,the distinction between the character's viewpoints and the author's perspective,the relationship between novels and sympathy,and especially innovative discussions and discoveries regarding"insight".Then,it reflects on and compares two great masters of Irish literature,James Joyce and Samuel Beckett.Finally,it addresses issues related to the translation of literary works.The main purpose of the interview is to gain an in-depth understanding of the creative characteristics of contemporary Irish writers,and to explore Irish literature more thoroughly through their perspectives.
