Order in Chaos:Armed Forces and Resistance in the South of Shanxi in the Early Days of the Occupation——From the Perspective of Hao Xingjiu's Diary
After the Japanese occupation of southern Shanxi,the existing order of rural society was changed.In the gap between Japanese rule,the Kuomintang army and the local armed forces in southern Shanxi persisted in resistance,and several armed forces co-existed in the countryside.The local people in between the armed parties,suffering from the brutality of the Japanese army,on the one hand,hoping resisting armed forces attack on the Japanese,on the other hand,fearing the Japanese army to retaliate.The armed forces of all sides cooperated to fight the enemy,but the mutual survival competition weakened the effectiveness of the resistance against the Japanese.War,atrocities and chaos have compounded the suffering of the people in the occupied areas.Different from the Kuomintang forces in the occupied areas,the Eighth Route Army left a good impression among the people.The different images of the armed forces in the minds of the public are the true portrayal of the two parties'respective anti-Japanese policies.
