Exploration of the Theoretical Origins of the Thought of Self-Governance——An Analysis Based on the Research Path of Elinor Ostrom
Elinor Ostrom's thought of self-governance is not an"inexhaustible source",it is a knowledge system that has been developed through extensive reflection and continuous exploration, drawing from the rich nutrients of existing theories on public resource governance and collective action,it has deep theoretical roots. This paper puts Ostrom's research in a specific historical context and explores its connections and development with other theories, which can promote and deepen our understanding of Ostrom's research. The study reveals that the academic sources of Ostrom's ideas includes public choice theory, new institutional economics, cooperative game theory, and polycentric governance theory. These theories provide systematic discussions on individualistic methodology, game rules of new institutionalism, structures of multi-person cooperative games, and social governance orders, among other aspects, which contribute to the development of Ostrom's ideas.
