On the Distinction between"True"and"Truth"in Language Expression
There are three levels involved in language expression. One is language itself, the second is what the lan-guage expresses, and the last is the truth condition of what is expressed. As for the second level, what is ex-pressed by language,we can say it is true or it is a truth, showing our empirical knowledge. The last level, the truth condition, the conditions under which a sentence is true, has two features:1)This condition is not what the language expresses, but goes with what is expressed by the language;2)The knowledge about it is not empirical. In English the word"truth"is correspond to the word"true",but in Chinese there are two words for"truth","Zhen Li"and"Zhen",of which the latter is correspondent to"Zhen De"(true),while the former not.Due to the difference in meaning,it is very important to realize the distinction between the two words so as to have a better understanding and knowledge of the Western philosophy.
