Rural Collective Economy:The Practical Logic of Farmers'Common Prosperity
The most challenging task in promoting common prosperity lies in rural areas.Common prosperity encom-passes not only the enrichment of material life but also the assurance of basic living standards, protection of rights and interests, and economic fairness. The rural collective economy is considered crucial for rural revital-ization and agricultural modernization. This paper uses the framework of"property rights, efficiency, and equi-ty"to elucidate the property rights logic of rural collective economies and their effect on common prosperity.U-sing data from the China Labor-force Dynamics Survey(CLDS),it empirically examines how rural collective economic development fosters common prosperity among farmers. The findings demonstrate that rural collective economies significantly increase farmers'per capita income, reduce income inequality, and lower the Gini co-efficient in villages, thereby enhancing economic benefits and promoting equitable distribution.Additionally, the rural collective economy helps narrow the urban-rural income gap, providing a key pathway for farmers to achieve common prosperity in China.Further evidence suggests that the coordinated development of rural col-lective and private economies, driven by a dual focus on efficiency in the private sector and fairness in the col-lective sector, can achieve a dual benefit of"having both fish and bear's paw"in promoting common prosperi-ty.This synergy enhances farmers'sense of gain, strengthens collective consciousness, and stimulates demo-cratic participation, thereby embodying the multifaceted benefits of rural collective economies.
