Selection of culture substrata for three-species cover plants in movable vertical greening
Shredded coconut, humus soil, garden mould and perlite were used as raw materials of culture substrata, the root-substrate integration molding time and growth differences of cover plants (Verbena hybrid, Ophiopogon japonicus var.nana and Euonymus japonicus 'microphylla')were analyzed by the four-factor and three-level orthogonal experiment to choose suitable culture substrata for those cover plants. The results showed that the humus soil met requirements of a good horticultural substrate in terms of bulk density, total porosity, maximum water capacity and water-air ratio, contained rich organic nutrition and had the largest effect on those cover plants' root shape and plant growth, while the perlite's effect was the poorest. The optimal culture substrate was 10.0% of 4 cm shredded coconut,67.5% of humus soil,22.5% of garden mould and 0% of perlite for V.hybrida,10.0% of 4 cm shredded coconut,90.0% of humus soil, and 0% of both garden mould and perlite for E. japonicus 'microphylla',and 10.0% of 2 cm shredded coconut,73.6% of humus soil,16.4% of garden mould and 0% of perlite for O. japonicus var.nana.
