Study on the physicochemical characteristics and in vitro bioactivities of corn silk polysaccharides
The polysaccharides were extracted from three varieties('Heijin 699','Jinyin 308',and'Xiawang')of corn silk by hot water extraction-alcohol sedimentation method, and the physicochemical properties and in vitro bioactivities of these polysaccharides were comparatively studied. The results showed that the contents of three polysaccharides('Heijin 699','Jinyin 308',and'Xiawang')were(32.57±0.12)mg/g,(96.39±0.76)mg/g and(27.48±0.63)mg/g,respectively.The results of the physicochemical properties showed that the three polysaccharides mainly consisted of arabinose, galactose and glucose, and had different molecular weight distributions.Fourier transform-infrared spectra analysis showed that three polysaccharides were acidic pyran polysaccharides with β-configuration.In vitro bioactivities results indicated that three polysaccharides possessed good antioxidant, hypoglycemic, and antitumor activities in a dose-dependent manner, among which polysaccharides in'Heijin 699'showed the best performance. In conclusion, three polysaccharides have good biological activities, which provide an experimental basis for their application in functional food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
