"Assistance"and"Replacement":The Dual Effects of Generative AI on Academic Research
The application of generative AI in academic research has opened a new chapter in knowledge production.It can assist people in academic research through "reading assistance","knowledge assistance","writing assistance",and "thinking assistance",automate some preparatory or auxiliary work,reduce human cognitive load,enable people to focus their main energy on the key links of academic innovation,and improve the efficiency of academic knowledge production.However,the excessive use of generative AI auxiliary functions may lead to negative effects such as"reading replacement","knowledge replacement","writing replacement",and"thinking replacement",resulting in multi-dimensional degradation of human academic abilities.How to use generative AI effectively with"assistance rather than replacement"is a new topic of human-machine cooperation for academic knowledge production in the age of intelligence.
