Global cities have heterogeneous functions that distinguish them from general cities and play a significant role in globalization,which has always been one of the core issues in global urban research.Scholars have conducted extensive explor-atory work on this topic,resulting in a rich body of literature.However,most studies are based on a single place space to explain the formation mechanisms of global cities'functions,defining them through phenomenological methods and emphasizing their con-trol and dominance.Therefore,it is necessary to reflect on this and gain a deeper understanding of the spatial aspects of global ur-ban functions.We need to reconstruct the basic framework of global urban formation mechanisms,define their origins,functional structures,and modes of operation,taking into account the dual nature of place and flow space.
