With the aging of the global population, the incidence of age-related diseases including osteoporosis is increasing.Fragility fractures caused by osteoporosis have brought a heavy burden to society and families.Using anti-osteoporosis drugs to reduce the occurrence of osteoportic fracture is an ideal approach, but the currently used drugs have various deficiencies,so it is imperative to find better anti-osteoporosis drugs for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.Recent studies have revealed that accumulation of senescent cells in the bone microenvironment is involved in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis;and removing these senescent cells or reducing senescence-associated secretory phenotype may prevent or slow down osteoporosis.Therefor,anti-cellular senescence therapy may become a novel strategy for treatment of osteoporosis or other aging-related diseases. This article reviews the research progress on the mechanism of cellular senescence in osteoporosis and anti-cellular senescence therapy for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in laboratory and pre-clinical studies.
