Ketamine is a classic general anesthetic.It has been approved by FDA for the clinical treatment of drug-resistant depression since 2019.This case indicates the potential value of general anesthetics in the treatment of mental disorders,thereafter it become a hot topic in the field of neuropsychiatric research.This article reviews the recent progress on the antidepressant effect and mechanism of general anesthetics such as ketamine,N2O and sevoflurane;as well as postpartum depression,anxiety,autism and schizophrenia.
