Since the unearthing of the Houma covenant texts,scholars have gradually shifted their focus from the linguistic interpretation of the oaths to their calligraphic art.Research on the calligraphy of the Houma covenant texts can be divided into five categories,namely:the nature of the characters,brushwork,character structure,calligraphic history and style and its modernization.In particular,the contemporary calligraphic value expressed by the Houma covenant texts can be appreciated through"calligraphic learning of the ancient script"and through the study of the zhuan script from the covenant texts.
