The Xingfenglou Copy-Model Book was engraved by Cao Shimian of the Southern Song dynasty while he was serving in the Nankang Military Prefecture;the claim that it was"carved by Zhao Yan of the Song dynasty in Nankang"is a misinterpretation of Ming sources. The existing twelve-volume version of the Xingfenglou Copy-Model Book consists of a rubbing taken after the Ming dynasty and its content is mainly based on the Chunhua Copy-Model Book, with the addition of other autographs. However, the presence of a counterfeit Northern Song era title, the inconsistency between the paper used at the beginning and end of the volumes and that of the main text, the misuse of the"wang zhengyue"allusion, the fabrication of seals, the recarving of autographs taken from the Jiangtie Copy-Model Book as well as other flaws are all clear evidence of forgery. The twelve-volume edition of the Xingfenglou Copy-Model Book preserved in Japan also is a forged collection, created with rubbings taken after the Ming dynasty.
