Treatment of cough related to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis from the theory of"five zang-organs being connected"
By studying the contents of the theory of"five zang-organs being connected"in Huangdi Neijing and the characteristics of cough related to the five zang-organs,as well as the etiology and pathogenesis of the cough related to pul-monary fibrosis,the therapeutic methods of treating the cough related to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)from the theory of"five zang-organs being connected"are discussed.According to the theory of"five zang-organs being connected",holis-tic concept and the theory of"the five zang-organs and six fu-organs causing cough",the determination of etiologic factors are obtained based on differentiation.Lung deficiency is the basic pathogenesis of IPF-related cough.Liver-Qi stagnation is an important inducement.The deficiency of both lung and kidney is the key to the prolonged disease.Spleen deficiency pro-duces phlegm,and intermingled deficiency and excess is the important pathogenic factor.Comorbidity in the heart and lung is a common pathogenesis development.In treatment,tonifying lung is the fundamental principle.According to the disease changes of other zang-organs,the methods of moistening lung,clearing lung,warBming lung,drying lung,etc.are used,which can assure harmonious condition among the five zang-organs and make the disease disappear gradually.
