Visual analysis of tuina therapy for hypertension in China over the past two decades based on CiteSpace
Objective:To conduct a visual analysis of the research trends, core themes, and future directions of tuina therapy for hypertension using CiteSpace 6.2.R6 software, providing theoretical support for clinical application and scientific exploration. Methods:Literature related to tuina therapy for hypertension published between January 1,2004,and Decem-ber 31,2023,was retrieved from CNKI,VIP,Wanfang, and PubMed databases.CiteSpace 6.2.R6 software was used to analyze the number of publications per year, authors, institutions, and keywords. Results:A total of 518 articles involving 285 authors and 239 institutions were included. The annual number of publications on tuina therapy for hypertension showed fluctuating changes, with an increasing trend from 8 articles in 2004 to 49 articles in 2020.There was a significant decrease in the number of publications from 2021 to 2023.Liu Qingguo was the author with the most publications(17 articles),and four authors had more than five publications each.Beijing University of Chinese Medicine published the most articles(25 ar-ticles),followed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine(22 articles),Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine(15 articles),and Chengdu University of Chinese Medicine(11 articles).Four main research teams led by Liu Qingguo,Feng Yue,Wang zhaoyang, and Li Min demonstrated tight collaboration within their teams but exhibited lim-ited inter-team communication and cooperation.Keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed that hypertension, acupoint mas-sage,tuina,acupuncture,and clinical efficacy were high-frequency keywords.Keyword clustering analysis resulted in 13 major clusters:external treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, experience, rotate and twirl the needle for supplementa-tion and draining purpose, acupucture, manipulative reduction, tuina, quality of life, acupoint massage,Qiaogong point-sleep quality, cervical spondylosis, prevention of disease, and cerebral hemorrhage.Emergence and timeline analysis of key-words indicated that recent research has shifted focus from single tuina techniques to a combination with other characteristic therapies of traditional Chinese medicine, with particular attention paid to improving patients' quality of life. Conclusion:Current research mainly focuses on exploring the combination of tuina with traditional Chinese and Western medical thera-pies for hypertension, but studies on the mechanism of action and special techniques of tuina for hypertension are still very limited.
