The first domestically produced large cruise ship is taken as the example to analyze the design process of cruise ship pillars from four aspects of pillar layout,design load,standard design,and full ship finite element analysis.Meanwhile,the characteristics of pillar design for this type of ship are summarized.In rule calculations,the buckling strength of the compressed column is mainly considered with two conditions of the average load and the local concentrated load.In finite element analysis,the emphasis is on the buckling strength of the column and the yield strength of the tensile column under the combined action of the standard average load and the deformation of the hull beam.The finite element analysis of the entire ship has verified that the design meets the requirements,and the tension pillars mainly appear at the bow,stern,and upper deck.The research results and their practice can provide reference for the pillar design of similar ship types in the future.
