Study on the Impact of Digital Economy on Agricultural and Rural Modernization:Evidence Based on the"Broadband China"Pilot Policy
Digital economy is becoming the only way to realize the modernization of agriculture and rural areas,and"broadband China"is an important policy measure to promote the development of digital economy.Based on the panel data of 295 prefecture-level cities in China from 2008 to 2022,this paper constructs a difference-in-differences model with multiple-time periods to test the impact of digital economy on agricultural and rural modernization based on the pilot policy of"Broadband China",and further analyzes the mechanism and heterogeneity of the impact of digital economy on agricultural and rural modernization.The research results show that:(1)Digital economy has a significant role in promoting agricultural and rural modernization;(2)The mechanism analysis shows that digital economy can enhance the modernization level of agriculture and rural areas through technological progress and human resources;(3)Heterogeneity analysis shows that the impact of digital economy on agricultural and rural modernization has the heterogeneity of region and agricultural and rural development level.Based on those above,suggestions are put forward to vigorously develop digital economy,promote the construction of digital infrastructure,strengthen the construction of digital countryside,facilitate the development of modernization of agriculture and rural areas,drive the improvement of technological progress and human resource level,fully implement the differentiated development policies,and bridge the gap in development.
