An Initial Investigation of Wang Shunan's Cultural Interchange in Xinjiang and Its Academic Significance
Wang Shunan came to Xinjiang from Hebei in 1906,and then returned to Beijing in 1911.Once as the Xinjiang Political Governor,he gathered a group of transferred or exiled officials to promote the development of cultural and educational undertakings in Xinjiang,and brought a positive cultural effect of revitalizing the national treasures to the Xinjiang literature community at the beginning of the 20th century.By presiding over the compilation of Records of Xinjiang Governing and so on,he has promoted the inheritance and development of Chinese culture context in the Xinjiang region.During his residency in Dihua,Wang Shunan had cultural interchange with people of different identities who went to Xinjiang,such as Changhe(writing and replying in poems,using the same rhyme sequence),inscribing preface and postscript,and exchanging cultural antiques.After returning to the Beijing,he maintained a stable and long-lasting cultural contact with his old friends in Xinjiang,and his important contribution to the cultural undertakings of modern Xinjiang has been valued by the people today.Moreover,Wang Shunan,had poetic interactions and cultural antique exchanges with people from different countries who traveled to Xinjiang in various capacities as well,which also provided the conditions for the overseas dissemination of Chinese Western Region Studies.
