Observations on the efficacy of wrist-ankle acupuncture plus Tao Hong Si Wu decoction for stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans of blood stasis type
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of wrist-ankle acupuncture plus Tao Hong Si Wu decoction for stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans of blood stasis type. Methods Ninety-eight patients with stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans of blood stasis type were randomized to observation and control groups, with 49 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Tao Hong Si Wu decoction and the observation group, with wrist-ankle acupuncture in addition. The TCM symptom score, ultrasound indicators(dorsal pedal artery peak flow velocity, inner diameter and blood flow volume),the ankle-brachial index, the arteriosclerosis index, vascular endothelial function(serum nitric oxide and endothelin-1 levels)and hemorheological indicators(low-shear whole blood viscosity,high-shear whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity)were observed in the two groups before and after treatment. The clinical therapeutic effects and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The total efficacy rate was 91.5% in the observation group, which was significantly higher than 76.6% in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the limb numbness score, the limb chill score and the limb pain score decreased in the two groups compared with before(P<0.05)and were lower in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the vascular peak flow velocity, inner diameter and blood flow volume increased in the two groups compared with before(P<0.05)and were higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the ankle-brachial index increased and the arteriosclerosis index decreased in the two groups compared with before(both P<0.05)and they were better in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, serum nitric oxide levels increased and endothelin-1 levels decreased in the two groups compared with before(both P<0.05)and they were better in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,low-shear whole blood viscosity,high-shear whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity decreased in the two groups compared with before(P<0.05)and were lower in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).No serious adverse reactions occurred in the two groups during treatment. Conclusion Wrist-ankle acupuncture plus Tao Hong Si Wu decoction has a marked clinical effect on stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans of blood stasis type.
