Theoretical exploration of"Five Differentiations"in traditional Chinese medicine for preventive treatment
The"Five Differentiations"theory in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)for preventive treatment is the result of accumulated work over a decade by the Health Commission of Pudong New Area,Shanghai. The"Five Differentiations"theory is the core characteristic of preventive treatment, conducted under the guidance of"syndrome differentiation".It includes differentiating constitution, symptoms, diseases, and changes. The principle of syndrome differentiation and treatment serves as the overall guidance, distinguishing between severity, urgency, authenticity, and priority.Constitution differentiation and treatment prioritizes identifying the patient's constitution, followed by differentiations of gender, age, and habits.Symptom differentiation and treatment emphasizes a comprehensive approach, integrating macro, meso, and micro-level differentiations.Disease differentiation and treatment combines ancient and modern medical knowledge to distinguish between primary and secondary factors, and to determine the duration and whether the disease is acute or chronic.Change differentiation and treatment clearly identifies changes in the location, nature, and progression of the disease. One proven case is presented.
