Economic Development and Representation in International Organizations:Analy-zing the Mechanisms of State Influence in Global Governance
The degree of professional representation of a country within international or-ganizations often mirrors its capacity to participate in global governance. This research ex-amines the socioeconomic mechanisms influencing member states'representation in 24 United Nations system organizations, utilizing staff distribution and financial data from 1996 to 2021.The study highlights that a nation's economic development plays a significant role in enhancing its representation within these bodies.Notably,"voluntary contributions"from member states and the development of their human capital are crucial in increasing representation. This effect is particularly pronounced in organizations focusing on establis-hing international norms and fostering regional economic development.Further empirical findings suggest that China's increased representation in these organizations has facilitated greater representation for other developing countries, matching their economic growth and enhancing their role in global governance. These insights contribute to the discourse on cre-ating a fair, rational, and democratic global governance framework.
