Advancing Sustainable Development for Higher Education Educators and Innovating Evaluation for Teaching Competence:Recent Developments in the UK Professional Standards Framework
The talent strategy is pivotal for universities as they strive for sustainable development for both the institution and society at large.Formulating and implementing professional standards play a crucial role in realizing this talent strategy and in steering educational governance.In 2006,the UK launched the Professional Standards Framework(UKPSF)applicable to all professionals in teaching and learning support roles in higher education institutions.This UKPSF was resived in 2011 and again in 2023.Based on content analysis of key policy documents and related research literature concerning the UKPSF,this study seeks to understand the motivations behind the 2023 UKPSF revision and examine the similarities and differences between the 2011 and 2023 versions.The study also investigates the application of the framework in three British research universities,showcasing diverse institutional strategies in faculty and staff development.These case studies illustrate how the framework aids educators in enhancing their pedagogical competence,fostering career development,and amplifying academic impact.
