National Action:Research on Federal STEM Education Projects in the United States
The United States provides funding for STEM education projects through various federal agencies such as the Federal Department of Education,the National Science Foundation,and the Department of Health and Human Services to play a guiding role in the development of STEM education.The article studies the implementation departments,investment amounts,governance methods,etc.of 180 STEM education projects funded by the federal government,and finds four characteristics of STEM education projects:emphasize interdisciplinary cooperation and improve the literacy of innovative talents;focus on cultivating STEM teachers and pay attention to underrepresented groups;promote the integration of science and education,and strengthen industry-academy cooperation;empower STEM education with technology to enhance digital skills of teachers and students.Drawing on the experience of the United States,when exploring innovative development paths for STEM education,China can strengthen top-level design and promote cross-agency project cooperation,build a STEM education ecosystem to improve the STEM literacy of the whole people,strengthen the cultivation of STEM teachers and establish a science education community,promote the integration of STEM education and production practice,and enhance the level of STEM vocational education.
