Core Concerns and Fundamental Trends in Educational Digitalization—The Interpretation of Consolidating Smart Education Strategies for SDG4:An Interdisciplinary Report on Digital Transformation of Education
The profound integration of intelligent technologies and education serves as a driving force behind the digital transformation in education,which is imperative for enhancing international competitiveness.However,the effectiveness of technology in addressing persistent challenges within the educational landscape has not yet been clarified.Interpreting and analyzing the Consolidating Smart Education Strategies for SDG4:An Interdisciplinary Research Report on Digital Transformation in Education released by the Global Smart Education Network(GSENet)would provide us with fore sights into the core concerns and fundamental trends of educational digitalization.Employing a qualitative analysis method,the report systematically coded the digital education policies of countries and regions around the world,and the findings indicated that digital education policies worldwide have distinct emphases,primarily aligning with the seven strategic areas:strategic vision of the education system,equity and inclusion in education practices,seamless and interconnected education networks,professional development of teachers'competencies,collaborative construction of learning communities,the ethical security in the networked environment,and the cross-domain collaborative innovation and sharing.Furthermore,utilizing international public datasets,the report established a framework for evaluating educational digitalization.This framework encompassed technology-driven shifts in teaching and learning,digital learning environments,educational governance and policy initiatives,and comprehensive and systemic considerations,which comprised four dimensions(50 indicators)to understand the current status of the quality and equity of digital education across countries worldwide.The application of the Random Forest algorithm in the analysis revealed that assessment indicators for educational digitalization significantly contribute to both education quality and equity.However,the extent of the contribution varied among the four dimensions.In conclusion,to proactively steer the course of global education digital transformation,the report put forth future development trends in the digital transformation in education,aimed at making a further probe into the inclusive and equitable quality education.
