Innovation as the Mission and Path:the New Trends in Higher Education Development—A Dialogue with Prof.Jean-Claude Ruano-Borbalan,Chair of European Institute of Education and Social Policy
Since the 21st century, the governance of higher education in various countries has exhibited characteristics of a new public management mode.Under the influence of both internal and external factors, innovation has become the new goal for higher education institutions and the guiding values in their actions.During the evolutionary process of the higher education system,new-type higher education institutions have been established, while traditional higher education institutions are continually transforming and developing. This includes setting up new types of internal institutions such as design colleges, focusing on promoting the learning based on real problems and projects. Also,"pluridisciplinarity"and design methods have been increasingly embedded in universities.Against the background of countries strengthening governance over higher education, the continuous evolution of higher education institutions, and the networking and multi-level cooperation, higher education institutions still maintain their organizational inertia and characteristics as academic institutions, despite facing multiple pressures and challenges such as funding shortage, international competition and new missions.
