In the process of the British colonisation in the Americas, tobacco cultivation experiments achieved success at the end of the 16 th century and the beginning of the 17th century. Not only did the cultivation of tobacco reverse the crisis of the British colonies in North America and the Caribbean, enabling the survival of those colonies, but also lay the foundation for the consolidation and expansion of the British American colonies. The demand for labour force promoted the rise and development of slavery in tobacco plantations in the British American colonies. The tobacco production in the British Empire, which was based on slavery, not only provided a stable source of tobacco sale in the British mainland, but also promoted the development of the British imperial commodity market. The design and application of tobacco commercial products in tobacco sale established a connection between the British consumers and colonies and slavery, reflecting the British people's imagination and cognition of the empire.Their colonial and racist imperial consciousness constructed the British imperial culture. In some ways, the rise of the British Empire was jointly achieved by the combination of tobacco cultivation in the British American colonies, the capital accumulated by the slave plantation economy, and the imperial culture constructed by the sale of tobacco.
