The nation-state is a form of modern state that has developed to a specific historical stage.Examining the future and destine of modern nation-state,we can find that globalization is the space-time field in which nation-states are involved,national identity is the underlying logic to maintain the legitimacy of nation-state,and the construction of modern nation-state is the solution for nation-states to realize their own survival and development.As analysis shows,globalization is weakening national identity,while modern nation-state construction is to preserve and enhance national identity,and the situation of"nationally identified state"will determine the future and destiny of nation-state.Since the 2008 global financial crisis,while exhibiting complex features,globalization has not reversed its tendency to challenge the legitimacy of nation-states and to create new inequalities within and between countries.Whether in terms of intensity or level,there are still many risks and uncertainties affecting the situation of national identity,which need to be systematically evaluated and carefully dealt with.As a kind of"slow variable",modern nation-state construction plays its role while facing a series of shocks and challenges.The future and destiny of modern nation-state is closely related to its own ability of sustainable self-construction and its effectiveness,as well as to the environmental changes and their intensity in the outside world.Under the interaction between contingency and necessity,individuality and commonality,and time and space,it shows its rich possibilities.
