The state is the product of specific social and historical conditions.In the days of single citizenship,changing citizenship was a very serious and solemn choice,which involved the identification and naturalization of the parties concerned to the new citizenship.However,as more and more countries around the world recognize dual and multiple citizenship,citizenship is no longer sacred,and national affiliation is no more unified.Through the prism of the inequality of power,wealth and opportunity in the contemporary world,this article reveals how"citizenship"has become a tool in the hands of certain privileged class,and how it has been turned into a special global asset that can be bought,cashed out,made profitable,and even passed down from generation to generation in the"collusion"with the state.This article points out,as neo-liberalism,which advocates liberalism,privatization and marketization,has become the theoretical leading model of immigration governance in some developed countries,holders of economic capital are able to pave the way to change their citizenship and national affiliation to their country with the money they have,and then obtain the political and economic rights and interests available to the citizens of their new country.Such a trend has a very far-reaching impact on the state,society and individuals,which is worthy of serious discussion.
