Circadian rhythm of emergence and reproduction of Heortia vitessoides Moore(Lepidoptera:Crambidae)
Heortia vitessoides Moore is a serious defoliators of Aquilaria sinensis(Lour.)Gilg.In or-der to explore the occurrence regularity of emergence and reproductive behavior of H.vitessoides, the a-dult emergence and reproduction behavior of H.vitessoides were studied at(25 ± 1)℃ and 75%~80%RH under 14 L:10 D photoperiod. The results showed that the emergence rate of adults was 83.20%,and emergence period was 10 days, the daily emergence peak occurred from 20:00 to 22:00.The sex ratio of female to male was 1.12:1.The adults became sexual maturity on the 2 nd day after emergence, and the peak of calling occurred from 20:00 to 21:00.Adult moths did not mate on photo-phase.The mating behavior was influenced by female age. With increasing moth age,the onset time of call-ing and mating advanced gradually.Eggs were laid on the back of leaves and the hatching rate of eggs was over 90%.The lifespan of virgin female and male were 8.83 d and 8.24 d on average, whereas that of the mated female and male was 6.32 d and 5.75 d on average. Thus mating shortens the lifespan of both sexes.
