Biological characteristics and occurrence of eucalyptus pest Ragwelellus rubrinus
Ragwelellus rubrinus(Hemiptera:Miridae)is one of the important pests causing serious damage in eucalyptus forests in Pu'er city,Yunnan province in recent years. The biological characteristics of R.rubrinus were studied by means of greenhouse feeding and field observation, and its occurrence was investigated in field. The results showed that the pest insect can occur more than five generations a year in Pu'er area, and one generation had 29-65 days. The eggs were laid in the newly sprouted shoots of eucalyptus. The nymphs were divided into three instars, and the young nymphs sucked the young leaves, resulting in punctate brown spots on the leaves, while the old nymphs and adults transferred and harmed the young shoots, resulting in"withered tops"of eucalyptus. The height growth of one-year-old Eucalyptus urophylla×Eucalyptus grandis decreased by 1.47 m and the growth of diameter at breast height(DBH)decreased by 1.20 cm compared with the undamaged tree. The height growth of 2-year-old E.urophylla×E.grandis was reduced by 2.03 m and the DBH growth was reduced by 1.59 cm compared with the undamaged tree. The height growth of 3-year-old E.urophylla×E.grandis decreased by 3.65 m and the DBH growth decreased by 2.70 cm compared with the undamaged tree.In 2023,the mild occurrence area, moderate occurrence area and severe occurrence area of R.rubrinus in eucalyptus plantation in Jinggu county of Pu'er city were 2 544.73 hectares,596.33 hectares, and 73.34 hectares, respectively, accounting for 14.46%of the monitored area. The results of this study can provide basic data support for effective monitoring and control of R.rubrinus.
