Qian Mu was not only a renowned master of Chinese studies but also an accomplished educator.In addition to his profound achievements in academic thought,his educational philosophy has gained increasing attention,and his views on physical education are equally noteworthy.Qian Mu's involvement in physical activities at various stages of his life reflects the social landscape of the time and serves as an authentic representation of physical education in primary,secondary,and higher education.The gymnastics courses he participated in during his youth were deeply influenced by militarized national education.His practice of integrating gymnastics into daily life was shaped by Western naturalism while incorporating his own practical vision.Furthermore,Qian Mu regarded physical education as a form of"recreation",reflecting his insights into life and scholarship,and embodying his pursuit of the unity of body and mind,as well as the harmony of Dao and the arts.
